Interns have the opportunity to actualize our goal of helping young people lead healthy lives in a digital world by assisting with our programs, including planning and executing our webby-nominated Ask the Experts webinar series, reading and assessing scientific literature, analyzing public policy and legislation, and creating informative, engaging content for our digital platforms. Our staff prides itself in providing mentorship and real-world experiences to help students develop their skills. We are happy to assist with any college credit requirements.
All internships are remote, and candidates should be authorized to work in the United States. We encourage but do not require students to work with their University to receive academic credit for the internship, if appropriate.

Children and Screens’ Research Internship track offers an opportunity for current graduate and advanced undergraduate students in the fields of psychology, child and adolescent development, neuroscience, pediatrics, or related fields an opportunity to support staff in a wide variety of projects related to all aspects of the field of digital media and child development. This includes reading, critically evaluating, and reporting on current research, helping plan and execute events or developing resources for various stakeholders, and attending weekly meetings.
The program offers a unique chance for students interested in academic course credit, with a strong focus on direct support from our dedicated staff members. In addition to earning course credit, interns will receive individualized mentoring ensuring intern’s progress and fulfillment of their personal educational goals.
Interns will work remotely for a minimum of 12 hours per week with flexibility around prior commitments. The internship lasts for 15 weeks.
Successful applicants will be current graduate or advanced undergraduate students who reside in the U.S., are majoring in a related field from an accredited university, demonstrate the ability to complete assigned projects, and contribute to the team in a virtual environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Interns perform the below duties and others as may be assigned:
- Research, plan, and execute expert convenings and events for various stakeholders, including the public
- Update internal article databases with the latest academic journal publications every week
Read, critically evaluate, and report on the current research on areas relating to digital media and child development - Attend internal meetings, and network with other interns and staff within the Institute
Occasionally present and lead discussions on academic information with fellow interns - Highlight key recent research findings and topic experts for a range of projects, including media interviews, social media content, newsletters, and weekly research article digests
- Prepare notes, talking points, and other materials on research methodology and results for various stakeholders
- Support the Postdoctoral Project Coordinator(s) with scholarly publications and grants relating to recent research retreats
ELIGIBILITY
The minimum qualifications are as follows:
- A current graduate or advanced undergraduate student majoring in psychology, child and adolescent development, neuroscience, pediatrics, or related fields (graduate students preferred)
- Basic knowledge of the current research relating to digital media’s effects on children and adolescents

The intern will participate in efforts to write about, report on, and inform the public of the latest legislative updates in this field.

- Assisting with the development of a policy resource section of our Children and Screens website
- Assisting the Institute in its regular programming, including an International Congress, interdisciplinary retreats, and in-house meetings

Under direction from our in-house Graphic Designers, the interns will also participate in efforts to develop brand identity, foster skills in conceptualization, communication, and critical thinking, and contribute to various creative projects.
This program is designed for students seeking academic course credit, emphasizing direct support from our dedicated staff members. In addition to course credit, interns will receive personalized mentoring to help them achieve their educational objectives.
Interns are expected to commit a minimum of 12 hours per week to remote work with flexibility to accommodate prior commitments. The internship period spans 15 weeks.

Children and Screens’ Development and Fundraising Internship Program invites passionate graduate and undergraduate students in programs related to nonprofit and business management, philanthropy, strategic fundraising, communications, and event planning to join our dynamic team.
During this 15-week internship, from Tuesday, September 5th to Friday, December 15th, you will collaborate directly with our dedicated staff and contribute your skills to assist with database maintenance, event planning, and creating engaging content for social media fundraising. FAQ
Will I have to travel to the office? No, Children and Screens is a fully remote organization, and all interns work remotely from their chosen location. Interns should have access to a computer, reliable internet access, and a webcam.
Can I change the length of the internship? Each internship requires a minimum of fifteen weeks of participating at least 12 hours a week. Extension beyond this semester-long period may be possible, subject to the satisfaction with work. No academic credit will be awarded if the internship is cut short, with the exception of illness.
Do I need to be certified to work in the U.S. to apply for this internship? Yes. Children and Screens can provide letters for CPT and OPT if necessary for international applicants.
Can I receive course credit for this internship? Yes! Children and Screens does offer course credit support and is happy to work with you and your university or college to fulfill any program requirements.
