Joan Almon

Joan co-founded the Alliance for Childhood in 1999 and served as its director until 2012 when she partially retired and became its director of programs. In the Alliance she brought together educators and health professionals who were deeply concerned about the growing stress and strain in children’s lives and worked collaboratively to strengthen childhood for all children.

David Bickham

David Bickham

David Bickham, Ph.D. received his doctorate in Human Ecology from the University of Texas and his undergraduate degree from Haverford College. He completed his post-doctoral training at the Center on Media and Child Health (CMCH) and is now an instructor of pediatrics in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and a Research Scientist at CMCH. Dr. Bickham is a health communication researcher with a specific focus on children and media.

Dr Michael Brody is a Board Certified practicing adult and child psychiatrist. He is Chair of the Media Committee of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Liaison to the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland. He had been one of the key advocates in the creation of Children’s TV Ratings, and COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act).

Ms. Espejo oversees media and oral health policy education and outreach efforts. She co-chairs the Children’s Media Policy Coalition, a group of national organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Psychological Association that educate and inform policymakers and the public about pressing children’s media issues such as interactive advertising and educational/informational programming.

As Executive Director of the Fred Rogers Center, Rick Fernandes is responsible for strategic partnerships, program development, and outreach and communications. He has been involved in children’s television for 30 years where he has worked on shows including Blue’s Room, Between the Lions, Out of the Box, Bear in the Big Blue House, and Reading Rainbow.

Dr. Sameer Hinduja is a Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University and Co-Director of the Cyberbullying Research Center. He is recognized internationally for his groundbreaking work on the subjects of cyberbullying and safe social media use, concerns that have paralleled the exponential growth in online communication by young people.
