Children and Screens: Institute of Digital Media and Child Development seeks an experienced, self-motivated and highly organized individual to join our staff as a Research and Programs Assistant. Reporting directly to the Director of Research and Programs, the Research and Programs Assistant position is a dynamic opportunity for a motivated professional to support Children and Screens’ mission to promote an evidence-based national dialogue and rigorous, objective research on the impact of digital media on children and adolescents.
The Research and Programs Assistant is accountable for supporting the execution of Institute projects of varying size and complexity involving interdisciplinary dialogue, research, and public education within the field of media’s impact on child development. The scope bridges the medical, neuroscientific, social science, education and academic communities. In addition to carrying out important project tasks, the Research and Programs Assistant will work closely with other Institute staff to ensure that every aspect of a project is being addressed and managed efficiently in accordance with the project objectives set and communicated by the leadership staff of Children and Screens.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating projects of different sizes (small/medium/large) through all project phases alongside senior members of the Institute’s research team
- Collaborating with team members to ensure all pieces of the project adhere to the defined project objectives
- Researching scientific, medical, and educational literature relevant to Institute project materials and resources, and maintaining our research catalog
- Developing public information materials communicating project objectives
- Ensuring that project meetings are scheduled, timely, and goal-oriented, with outputs documented, and keeping the projects moving on a day-to-day basis
- Maintaining and monitoring project schedules, materials, information, and resources
- Preparing support materials for leadership before speaking engagements
- Participating in event planning efforts for our Ask the Experts webinar series and in-person convenings, including our 2025 Digital Media and Developing Minds Scientific Congress
- Coordinating meetings with scientists, advisors, and government officials
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing program impact data
- Tracking project schedules and ensuring deliverables are met in a timely manner
- Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Research and Programs
Eligibility
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- B.S. / B.A. or advanced degree in media studies, psychology, neuroscience, communications, education, human development, or related fields
- Extraordinary work ethic; commitment to achieving excellence
- Outstanding organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to prioritize and multitask
- Capability to respond to general guidance and work independently and with a team in a remote setting
- Ability to adapt and desire to continuously learn new skills
- Ability to attend regular weekly meetings between staff and interns
- Proficiency in all Google applications, especially Drive, Sheets, Docs, and Gmail
Compensation
Children and Screens: Institute of Digital Media and Child Development values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. The annual salary for this position starts at $45,000.
